Orochimaru’s ring: 空 (Ku, meaning "sky", “void”, "empty")Orochimaru is a snake, and as Sasuke says, he will never “reach the sky” no matter how hard it tries. As Sasuke notes in his confrontation of Orochimaru, a snake can never hope to fly except in the talons of a hawk (note that Sasuke chooses to name his squad Taka/Hawk, shortly after he kills Orochi). The other translation of the character is "Void", or absolute emptiness. This reflects that he left Akatsuki, but because he kept his ring, his position was technically never filled, an empty space. It could also link to the emptiness he felt after seeing people die, and how he craved eternal life as he felt that a temporary life was “empty”, or pointless.
